The Scarlet Reef Hermit crab is named after its vibrant red legs and is a popular hermit crab amongst the reef community. They are a hardy hermit crab and will eat most types of algae including nuisance algae of the filamentous, hair, and slime varieties, as well as cyanobacteria. They are a great addition to a clean up crew and will even eat leftover food and detritus. Scarlet Hermit Crabs have a large appetite and if there is not enough algae and other types of food in the aquarium, they will need to be supplemented feedings of dried seaweeds and other marine foods.
