Copper is used often for parasitic infections in tanks, and the correct concentration must be used. Levels that are too high may be toxic to your tank. Tap water is sometimes high in copper naturally, so it is advisable to test your tap water, as well.

The Salifert CU Copper Test Kit offers you an accurate and sensitive test for measuring weakly chelated or dissolved copper that has a pH between 7.5 and 9. The kit lasts for several cures on copper levels or provides up to about 50 tap water tests or routine aquarium tests.

You can use this copper test kit for garden ponds, or fresh or marine water. Copper that is strongly chelated will be partially detected, or not detected at all. Be sure to keep this and all aquarium kits and chemicals out of the reach of children.

Instructions:

  1. Place two ml of water in your test vial.
  2. Add five drops of Cu test kit reagent and gently swirl for five seconds.
  3. Allow this to stand for about 10 minutes.
  4. Some medications that include copper may use a strongly bound type of copper, and require a 20 minute wait time.
  5. If you’re not sure, compare the copper values after 10 minutes and again after 20 minutes, and use the highest value.
  6. To obtain proper copper concentration, hold the test vial and place the white portion of the color chart against the test vial side. Look at the vial from the opposite side.
  7. A blue-ish tinge that is lighter than 0.1 ppm means about 0.05 ppm.
  8. A color that is in between two of the color bars indicates that the copper value is between those two specific values.
