The Pencil Urchin has spikes that radiate all over its body, often after time they can become covered with coralline algae. The Pencil Urchin is a scavenger and will “crawl” over the reef tank looking for algae, uneaten food, sponges, and sea squirts. It is important to have a good amount of live rock when owning a pencil urchin so they have places to hide and graze. If there is not enough natural food in the aquarium they may be supplemented with dried seaweed or meaty foods.
