The Chevron Butterfly fish is an obligate corallivore. This means they eat and must eat coral to survive. Their specialized diet is difficult to reproduce in the aquarium and makes them very difficult to keep. They are only suitable for an expert aquarist. Though some individuals will accept substitute foods such as brine and mysid shrimps, they will subsist only for a short period of time without all their necessary nutrients.
